What is the jury format? The Portland Indie Wine Festival is a juried competition featuring Oregon's premier boutique wineries. In early March, we invite three panels of judges comprised of wine experts from the media, trade and winemaking professions for a blind tasting to determine who'll make the cut and pour their wines in the festival each year. During the blind tasting, the jury is only made aware of the vintage year and wine variety he or she is tasting. The judges rate each wine and an average is calculated for a final score. This score determines the rank of the winery in the tasting. Of the over 175 wine submissions taken from nearly 100 wineries, only the top 40 wineries are selected to pour their wines at the festival. Only wines submitted and ranked by the jury will be poured during the festival. The Indie Wine Festival's expert judging panel guarantees an authentic experience and ensures that your ticket dollar is well spent. Attendees have the unique opportunity to talk with these often unknown, small-production winemakers from around the state, and purchase their wines to take home. We are honored to have our panel of distinguished judges who take part in the blind tasting, and we thank them for their generous support as we uncork the best of Oregon. 2010 Portland Indie Wine & Food Festival Judges include: James Cury, Editor, hearst.com The final list of judges for the 2010 festival, including biographies and photos, will be announced February 15th.
